Moon Phases and Astrology
The lunar cycle lasts about 29.5 days and is divided into four main phases. In astrology, each phase is associated with a different stage in a symbolic cycle of beginning, growth, culmination, and closure.
New Moon
The New Moon marks the start of the cycle, when the Moon isn't visible in the sky. It's traditionally associated with new beginnings, intentions, and planted seeds — a symbolic moment for starting projects.
Waxing Moon
As the Moon grows in brightness, this phase is associated with building, effort, and action — the moment to follow through on what was started at the New Moon.
Full Moon
The Full Moon is the cycle's brightest point, associated with culmination, revelation, and clarity. It's often described as an emotionally more intense moment, when results and feelings surface.
Waning Moon
In the final phase, brightness gradually decreases. It's associated with closure, release, and reflection — a time to let go of what no longer serves before the next cycle begins.
How this cycle is used
Many people use the Moon's phases as a symbolic calendar to organize habits, decisions, and personal rituals, following the rhythm of opening and closing that the lunar cycle suggests.
